Now that work is back in full swing, I am loving the "me" time I carve out for myself each morning. I have a set routine that really allows me to fill my glass for the coming day. There is something refreshing and calming about a quiet house. I hear sounds I am never able to hear during the hustle and bustle of the day. The tick-tock of the clock as it moves the time incrementally forward is mesmerizing. The fridge actually hums a song to greet me each and every morning. There are no people or chores vying for my attention. This allows me time to accomplish my daily -five, many beginning with the prefix re-. Dictionary.com defines the prefix re- as, "verbs beginning with re- indicate repetition and restoration." Both repetition and restoration are key to me staying grounded during the school year.
Morning is an amazing time to reconnect with the Creator. The fajr prayer is often an overlooked prayer, as it is one in which many find difficult to roll out of bed. However, I think it is the one that I feel most vulnerable and open to receiving guidance from Allah. The amount of gratitude that I feel for being given a new day and new opportunities is transformative. The quiet tranquility of the morning seems to resonate with dhikr as it rolls off the tongue after prayer. I also feel that it is a perfect opportunity to read the Quran and gain wisdom from it. As the day begins to pick up speed, much of what might have been learned can be clouded as life becomes a distraction. After prayer, I often take an opportunity to reflect and reassess through my planner so that I can see exactly what I need to focus on during the day. It feels really amazing to go forward with the day having direction and a plan. Reading time is my favorite time of the morning. However, it is also the time that I most often neglect. Words are incredibly powerful and moving, and I believe they can have an amazing impact on your day. I love to read anecdotes and inspirational stories in the morning. This is a really good time to check out blogs that you find uplifting. Anything to give a positive spin on the day. Finally, I focus on rejuvenation. It is important for me to be in the state physical state that I was the day before. A quick shower and a great breakfast is a perfect way to accomplish this. As you can see, I didn't go in depth into my morning routine. This is definitely the skeleton of how it goes. As a mom of two girls, it doesn't always happen completely or in this order. However, maybe it gives you something to think about. How do you utilize your morning time to present your best to the world?
